3323 1931-08-12 Fratton

Great Western Railway Dean 'Bulldog' class 4-4-0 No. 3323 'Etona'. Built at Swindon in Nov. 1899 and withdrawn in Aug. 1935. Waiting to depart from Fratton, Hampshire in August 1931 is 'Bulldog' 3323 'Etona. Notable is the combined name and numberplate, a short-lived break with GWR tradition. Of these plates that have survived, several have had build dates chiseled off for some reason. The class underwent a variety of modifications and updates over the years, particularly with uprated and improved boiler types.
