Coal arriving at Methil Exchange Sidings from non WPR pits was hauled to the Baum Washer by WPR locomotives, as seen here with No 18 (AB 2048/38) setting off from Methil on 8th December 1967. At this point the terrain is relatively flat and speed is being generated for a run at the White Swan Brae which lies ahead. The tall chimney in the background emitting white smoke was situated in Leven and was a distinctive local landmark seen in many photographs.
