WPR 17 1970-03-25 Wellesley
This location, much favoured by photographers is the junction between the WPR main line and the rising gradient from Methil, controlled by Denbeath signalbox situated behind the locomotive. It is Wednesday 25th March 1970 and scenes such as this will come to an end in just two days time. The substantial load of Lochhead coal snakes away on the curve behind WPR No 17 with the brakevan visible on the bridge in the distance. The driver surveys the distant North Sea, possibly reflecting on his own uncertain future though he has fortunately remembered to open the regulator in preparation for the change in gradient about to be met at the approach to the washer sidings.
