62789 1950s Stoke Station

62789 1950s Stoke Station

Ex-Great Eastern Railway J. Holden 'E4' class 2-4-0 No. 62789. Built at Stratford in July 1896 as GER No. 497 and withdrawn in December 1957.

Perhaps wayside station scenes such as these should be viewed in terms of economics rather than idyllic photographic opportunities as pictured in this delightful undated 1950s view. Stoke Station in Suffolk opened in August 1865 was closed on 6th March 1967, along with the entire Stour Valley line.
