61760 1954-10 Boston Goods

61760 1954-10 Boston Goods

Ex-Great Northern Railway Gresley 'K2' class 2-6-0 No. 61760. Built by NBL of Glasgow in June 1918 as GNR No. 1670 and withdrawn in December 1960.
Ex-Great Eastern Railway J. Holden 'J69' class 0-6-0 Tank No. 68543. Built at Stratford in Apr. 1894 as GER No. 367 and withdrawn in Nov. 1959.

This deliciously moody October 1954 photograph by the late Les Perrin, was taken off Locomotive Bridge looking south into the Goods Yard with the branch to Sleaford veering off to the right. A wonderful spot for Trainspotting! Here we see 61760 leaving Boston with an up goods and passing 68543 and another 'J69' engaged with shunting the goods yard. Note that even in the early 1950s, gas lighting was the norm for many railway installations.
