Heading out of Criccieth with a Up train from Pwllheli, the Duke was withdrawn in June 1950.

Peter Kerslake says "Bearing a later number now 9054 this "Duke" is working the Cambrian main line and heading an all stations two coach local service "up" working away from the end of the line at Pwllheli, and has been recorded here just having passed over Merllyn Crossing, just east of Criccieth on a falling one in eighty two gradient down towards Portmadoc and onwards to Barmouth and posibly beyond ."
