3259 1936-03-29 nameplate
One of Les Hanson's many photographs of nameplates includes this one of GWR William Dean 'Duke' class 4-4-0 No. 3259 'The Lizard'. It was taken in March 1936 at Banbury MPD in Oxfordshire. It was named not after the reptile as might be surmised, but after the Britain's most southerly peninsula in Cornwall. 3259 was built at Swindon in Sept 1895 as GWR No. 3258, re-numbered to 3259 in Dec. 1912 and withdrawn in Feb. 1938.
