3276 1932 Mexborough

3276 1932 Mexborough

Great Central Railway designed Robinson 'O4/3' class 2-8-0 No. 3776. Built by NBL of Glasgow in Apr. 1918 as ROD No. 1870, transferred to LNER stock in Feb. 1924 and withdrawn in Apr. 1962 as BR No. 63776. There's plenty to catch the eye in this 1932 photograph at Mexborough. The signalman peers from his box whilst a quartet of railway staff relax ouside their 'bothy'. Meanwhile, 3776 is approaching with a train of wooden bodied wagons but the real delight is in the two workers wandering along the track with 'Rover' on his lead. T'was indeed a simpler (but harder) world.
