9601 1965 Bristol Barrow Road shed
John Haddrell says "I remember seeing this loco parked in this position beside the gas holders myself. She was withdrawn from regular service and in use as a stationary boiler for carriage heating at the time".
From his notes he noted 9601 present as a stationary boiler in the carriage sidings adjacent to the depot on visits to Barrow Road on 29/04/1965, 15/05/1965, 19/06/1965 and 26/06/1965. He says "I recall the carriage sidings were by then closed and the loco had a "disused" look about her. On one occasion (I believe 29/04/1965) I was able to get up close and observed the regulator handle had been removed".
It was withdrawn from capital service at the end of 1964 and sold to Wards' Briton Ferry at the end of July 1965, departing Bristol for the cutters torch early in August. It was quickly despatched before the month of September.
