9774 1965 St Andrews Junction Birmingham

‘57xx’ Pannier tank No.9774 in 1965 takes the right hand fork at St.Andrews Junction, possibly with a Bordesley to Washwood Heath control special with coal empties. It had been transferred from Wellington in August 1964 to Tyseley from where it was withdrawn in late 1966. The brake lever tells us the first wagon was a LNER built hopper.

It should be noted that the withdrawal of the last 3 'Pannier' tanks (4646, 4696, 9774, w.e. 12th Nov. 1966) rendered extinct the running stock of the former G.W.R. -with the exception of the N.G. V. of R. engines.
