Classis GW workhorses at the twilight of steam.

Peter Kerslake says "A fine study of a trio of little Tank Engines on shed at Newport Ebbw Vale Junction M.P.D. in 1965, the final year for steam operations on the Western Region with all engines appearing to still have their numberplates, an unusual feature at many sheds at this late date.
The unusual design of brickwork at the front and side of this end of the coaling plant shows where, when built, provision had been made for the structure to be increased at this, the northern end, but such extension was never brought about with just a temporary addition being made at the far end instead.
If you wanted to see or capture on film one of the massive 92 ton "72XX" class of 2-8-2 Tank engines then this was the place to visit, with no less than fifteen of the class of fifty four being housed here at Ebbw Vale Junction in the late 'fifties."
