Peter Kerslake says "Coupled to a rake of Southern Region stock "Modified Hall" 6963 "Throwley Hall" heads eastwards through Didcot running on the main line from Swindon and beyond and probably bound for the Southern Region from Reading but it would be interesting to know what this working was with its "1026" Midland Region style of Reporting Number, the engine having been allocated to Chester M.P.D. a few years earlier, but now working from 81D Reading.
Just visible in the right background are the lines to and from Oxford together with Didcot shed, now the home of the Great Western Society."
