6977 1959-08-08 Bristol Temple Meads

South end of Bristol Temple Meads Station on Saturday 8th August 1959, with Down 'Devonian'
View NE from Platform 10 to No. 5, where Hawksworth 'Modified Hall' No. 6977 'Grundisburgh Hall' (built 11/47, withdrawn 12/63) has just taken over from an LMS 'Jubilee' 4-6-0 and will proceed to Paignton (due 6.30pm, having departed Bradford Forster Square at 9.20am).

Peter Kerslake adds "A nice " across the tracks " shot here at Temple Meads of the down " Devonian " about to set off on the last leg of its long run from Bradford to Newton Abbot and the Torquay line .
This was a favourite " return home " booking for the sole " Britannia " allocated at Newton Abbot , namely 70022 " Tornado " in past years , but " Tornado " would have been at Cardiff Canton at the date of this view, having moved away from Newton Abbot in December of 1956 , and so the Running Foreman here at the Bath Road Depot has today put his 6977 " Grundisburgh Hall " on what will be a relatively easy run westwards into Devon , even for a " Hall " .
