Cardiff - Portsmouth express passing Lawrence Hill viewed northward on the ex-GW main lines out of Bristol, towards Filton Junction. The 12.50pm Cardiff - Portsmouth, which has called at Stapleton Road, will turn east to Bath, Westbury and Salisbury to reach Portsmouth Harbour (due 2.18pm).

The lovely Welsh Harp GWR lamps are spoilt against the surroundings.

Peter Kerslake adds "6936 , " Breccles Hall " is shown in my 1956 shedbook as being a Bristol Bath Road engine , and in this fine view six years on is dropping down from Filton Junction and has run past Horfield , Ashey Hill and Stapleton Road stations on this stretch of line before she takes the line to the South Coast at Dr. Days Junction thereby bypassing Temple Meads "
