4992 7900 1962-04-26 Banbury

A nicely sunlit Banbury Motive Power Depot in April of 1962 with a well turned out 4992 " Crosby Hall " and 7900 " Saint Peter's Hall " on shed in the days when the Depot held some seventy locomotives , Banbury being an important rail centre with through traffic from the Midlands and the North passing through bound for South Coast centres.
In 1963 , however , the Depot was transferred away from the Western Region to the London Midland Region and although the transfer of eight "Britannias " there from Oxley , Holyhead and Crewe South in September of 1965 doubtless extended its life the Depot closed in October of 1966 , those eight " Britannias " having been resident there for just four months before all went to Carlisle Kingmoor .
