6971 1963c Gloucester Central
The end of Western Region steam was nearing its December 1965 date when 6971 was recorded here at Gloucester Central having worked up from South Wales on a mixed freight , the leading wagon holding what looks to be steel , the locomotive probably having taken water from the column on the left and also having changed driver and his fireman as was so often the practice on such workings .
6971 " Athelhampton Hall " still has her name and numberplates in position , and in earlier times had been a Tyseley based engine , so may possibly still be based there at the date of this view.
