4993 1960s Exeter St Davids
Although the single lamp on top of the smokebox door shows this to be an " all stations " stopping service there's a fair load behind the tender of 4993 " Dalton Hall " which had been a Reading engine a few years previously.
This working is crossing the River Exe bridge and running into Exeter St. Davids and could well have originated from Kingswear or possibly from further west , namely Plymouth or even Penzance , and would have run along the sea wall at Teignmouth and Dawlish before reaching here.
The ferocious one in thirty six climb up to the Southern Region's Central station , curving up to the left , shows well in this view , as does the elevated St . David's West signal box and the impressive array of signals with a distant " on " for this working .
