5906 1960s Plymouth passing Laira
Peter Kerslake says "5906, "Lawton Hall" is shown in my shedbook as being a Reading engine in the mid ' fifties and is pictured here running up to Lipson Junction and passing Laira shed with an interested group of enthusiasts on the embankment within the shed. There's a "King" and a "Britannia" at the end of the shed's coaling line together with the ash removal steam crane and our cameraman is at the top of the steps leading down to the pedestrian underpass below the main line at this point with the site of the long since closed Laira Halt visible on the left in this picture. Saltram Park and the River Plym form the backdrop, and this is a location that I know so very well!"
