By the time the number of ‘Halls’ had passed three hundred engines, suitable names on Western Region territory had been exhausted. No.7923 Speke Hall built by British Railways in September 1950 was named after a Tudor timber-framed manor house on the banks of the River Mersey just outside Liverpool. It was allocated to Southall shed from September 1958 until October 1964. Newton Abbot Shed can be glimpsed in the distance on the right.
