Modified Hall’ No.7929 Wyke Hall, on Down coal empties, pulling hard through Saltley station on the gradient up to Camp Hill on 6th April 1963.
According to the 1959 Working Timetable ‘Halls’ were allowed as far as Water Orton to collect and deliver inter-regional freights, but were only allowed into the reception and departure roads. At Washwood Heath Up and Down yards there were similar restrictions with access allowed to certain roads. The only other GWR tender type allowed was the ‘22xx’ which had similar access as a Midland ‘3F’.
