GWR Hall 4-6-0 No 4975 Umberslade Hall pilots 6023 King Edward II with the 8.35am from Falmouth passing Dainton on 28 June 1958.

Peter Kerslake says "A splendid view at the western summit of Dainton, the steepness of the one in 44 or so clearly evident as the sidings on either side are actually on the level!
4975 "Umberslade Hall" has come as pilot to the "King" at Plymouth as the load is clearly over the ten coach load for an unassisted "King" but it will come off at Newton Abbot and my old shed book has it housed at Hereford in 1956 but I suspect that it may have been transferred down to Newton Abbot by the date of this view. The delightful Saxby and Farmer signal box with its distinctive rounded top windows completes this fine view and neither of the engines seem to be working very hard despite the gradient and the heavy load."
