6936 1960s Lickey

6936 1960s Lickey

Western Region ‘Hall’ No.6936 Breccles Hall banked by No.92079. An unusual shot of a GWR locomotive on the incline. It has a ‘88A’ shedplate which indicates that the picture was taken in 1961 or 1962 because this was Cardiff Canton’s shedcode only from January 1961 until September 1963, and No.6936 had moved on to Cardiff East Dock by September 1962. It was probably on the 6.10am Class D freight from Cardiff to Lawley Street which used either a Canton Hall or Grange. The train was worked by Saltley men from Worcester and the engine, after servicing at Saltley, returned on the Washwood Heath Sidings to Stoke Gifford Class E goods.
