6998 1964-07-11 Ruddington
The (SO) 1N63 Bournemouth West- Bradford Exchange passes Ruddington on 11th July 1964. The now preserved Western Region 'Hall' No.6998 Burton Agnes Hall worked the train from Oxford to Nottingham and returned light engine to Banbury. The 'Hall' handed over the train to the regular 'Jubilee', No.45562 Alberta, which worked the train forwards from Nottingham Victoria.
Following its purchase direct from British Railways in January of 1966 on behalf of the Great Western Society , 6998 " Burton Agnes Hall " , a Cardiff Canton engine in previous times , was accordingly moved down from Oxford to Totnes in Devon that April for temporary storage pending its final move under its own steam on that memorable 2nd. of December , 1967 , in company with 1420 and items of preserved Society stock to its permanent home at Didcot , the Society by then having established itself at Didcot.
Restoration thereafter began in June 1968 of this , the engine which had earlier worked the last scheduled Western Region steam hauled passenger duty on 3rd. January , 1966 from Oxford to Banbury .
