5948 1961 Bristol Temple Meads

Pictured at the northern end of Temple Meads and with a freshly filled tender of coal, 5948 Siddington Hall, a Pontypool Road engine in earlier years, has a Reporting Number with what looks like a M prefix, indicating that it is probably waiting to work to Birmingham via the Cheltenham and Stratford on Avon line from here and appears to be awaiting arrival of its train from the south whereupon it will take the working forward as a fresh engine. Note the massive water tank in the background with the roof of Mr. Brunel's original Train Shed just visible behind th signal gantry and iin the foreground is a special insulated fishplate for track circuiting nicknamed an 'Elephants Ear'
