7904 1956-02-18 Bath Spa

Waiting on the through road here at Bath Spa , 7904 " Fountains Hall " and its footplate crew are on the daily " Running In " turn between Swindon and Bristol for locomotives fresh from Works , and this Old Oak Common stalwart has been given new colours by the boys at Swindon all ready for its return to service from its home shed.
The driver has a formidable looking grease gun ( or is it oil ? ) for the crosshead and slidebars whilst his fireman is also determined not to be missed by the lucky cameraman.
Being one of the last batch of " Halls " , 7904 survived until the end of Western steam but by then had been relegated to freight workings in and around the West Midlands to South Wales and return.
