Ex-Midland Railway Johnson '1377' (LMS '1F') class 0-6-0 Tank No. 41804. Built at Derby in September 1890 as MR No. 889 and withdrawn in December 1966.
The story of how ancient Midland Railway 'half cab' 0-6-0s came to be still working at Staveley Iron Works in Derbyshire over sixty years and less than 30 miles from their birthplace is both well known and scarcely believable though absolutely true nonetheless! 41804 is shunting there on a rainy, miserable June day in 1964. A tea mug and can are visible in the cab and the tarpaulin rain sheet is folded back in spite of the weather.
