Southern Pacific Railroad 'AC4 Cab Forward' oil-burner class 4-8-8-2 No. 4105. Built by Baldwin in 1928 and withdrawn by 1955.

This photograph (in spite of a minor focus defect) is a real gem. The 'cab forward' locomotive was also used in Italy and Germany, but it was in the USA that the concept reached fruition. The Southern Pacific Railroad had over 250 of the type by the 1930s. This 1940s view of 4105 is at Taylor Shops (works) in Los Angeles.
