Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad '2900' class 4-8-4 No. 2921. Built by Baldwin in 1944 as a class of 30 locomotives all withdrawn by 1959 and five are preserved.

A dust of snow is laying at Flagstaff, Arizona in January 1946, Flagstaff Depot (Station) is obscured behind the train. It seems incomprehensible to the British railway enthusiast that total freedom of access to the tracks is the USA norm in this era and even today in many places. The wonderful thing is, that this allowed superb photographs like this one of 2921 to be taken without anyone thinking twice about it. What a sight!
