52044 1950s Wakefield shed

The last Barton Wright L&YR 0-6-0 No 52044 sits over the ash pits at Wakefield MPD, having its fire cleaned in the late 1950s. Built in 1887 at Beyer Peacock’s Manchester works, it carries their distinctive works plate on the middle splasher. Following withdrawal in June 1959, this engine was bought privately and has spent the last 60 years on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
