1415 1923-04-27 Doncaster Station Turntable

This turntable, once located at the south end of Doncaster Station was often used as a photographic location by the GNR and LNER official photographers. This interesting view was taken on Friday 27th April 1923 and sees ex-GNR Ivatt C1 Atlantic No. 1415 as newly repainted in the first version of the new LNER livery. Several changes to this would be made in short order. The old GNR number would be increased by 3000, thus 1415 would become LNER 4415. The number on the tender would be transferred to the cab side sheets. The tender would be lettered LNER not L&NER, presumably saving gallons of paint over the years! Finally, the new, feeble, small LNER owner plate on the cabside would be dispensed with. 1415 was built at Doncaster in Apr. 1906 and was withdrawn in Apr. 1947 as LNER No. 2845. Oh to see the preserved 'C1' as GNR No. 251 back in steam again!
