A Class B4 4-4-0 gets ready for departure for London Victoria in about 1920. This was one of the few members of the class built (1902) at Brighton. Most of the others were products of Sharp Stewart & Co. Many B4s carried names which had connections with the Boer War, being waged at the time that the class was introduced in the late 1890s. No 44 originally carried the name ‘Cecil Rhodes’
It was not rebuilt as B4X but survived to be one of 7 B4s aquired by BR and was withdrawn in September 1948 as No 2044.
