Richard Lightbown says "Late mid 1960s. The nameplates were removed on all the locomotives following thefts to two locos (I think 24 Calbourne was one), probably very late in 1965 (W28 still carried one in November). On its own initiative, Ryde works made up some substitute plates for all the locomotives then in service. As seen here on Seaview, they were flat steel plates with the name painted on in white paint.
