The terminus station at Ventnor on the Isle of Wight closed in 1966. It was unique in that it could only be accessed by a 1,312 yards (1,200 m) long tunnel through St Boniface Down. A turntable was used to allow steam engines to runaround their trains. Ex-L&SWR Adams 'O2' No. W21 'Sandown' has emerged from the smoky bore and runs past the neat signal cabin with just a few yards now remaining to complete its journey. Mon. 27th July 1964.
