Andrew Dyke has done some research and concludes "On a bright sunny afternoon in August 1959 at around 1.45 pm, 2251 class 0-6-0 No 2294 bringings in the 11.26 am Barmouth to Pwllheli freight into Portmadoc. This diagram was the second of two through goods trains, the 7.5 am from Machynlleth being the other calling into Portmadoc at around 9.37 am. Portmadoc would receive a further two class K diagrams, which would terminate, the 5.55 pm Portmadoc freight from Barmouth due in at 8.20 pm and the SO 8.25 pm, again from Barmouth due in at 9.50 pm".

Portmadoc was an important place for goods traffic, hence the large goods shed on the right.
