A well turned out 2289 with a good head of steam aas the fireman waits for the "Right Away" at Fairbourne before leaving with a train towards Barmouth Junction. 2289 was transferred from Oxford to Oswestry in April 1956 and on to Machynnleth three months later.
Faibourne station dated back to June of 1899, replacing the former Barmouth Ferry station which closed in 1867 when the Barmouth bridge came into use.
A busy station in its heyday, with local milk traffic, Fairbourne was a popular holiday resort, the local narrow gauge railway adding to the area's popularity.
The lady in the camping coach on the right has hung the clean washing out to dry, all adding to the splendid scene!
