2219 1950s Oswestry MPD

2219 1950s Oswestry MPD

Ex-Great Western Railway Collett '2251' class 0-6-0 No. 2219. Built at Swindon in June 1940 and withdrawn in March 1964. Also seen are BR Riddles 'Standard 4' class 4-6-0s No. 75006 and 75020, LMS designed Ivatt '2MT' class 2-6-0 No. 46505.

The former Cambrian Railway shed at Oswestry lasted from 1860 until 1965. This mid-1950s view shows four locomotives with another three in the shadows. On Sundays in this era around thirty engines could be in residence.
