3209 , a Worcester engine in earlier years, running past a rake of loaded coal wagons in Machynlleth Motive Power Depot. Machynlleth was the principal depot at the west of the Cambrian network, with sub-sheds at Aberayon, Portmadoc, Pwllheli and Aberystwyth. It was the home to no fewer than nine 2251 class 0-6-0s although some of them were in reality based at one of its sub-sheds. They were well suited to the Cambrian system, working in company with the 'Dukedog' 4-4-0s, so long associated with the Cambrian lines, often double-heading passenger workings with them from Aberystwyth and Pwllheli to and from Shrewsbury.
3209 is standing on the 'Turntable Road', the turntable being out of picture in the distance. The original 45 ft. turntable from Cambrian days had been replaced by a larger 55 ft. one in the late 'thirties which had come from Aberystwyth Depot and which was capable of turning the 'Manor' 4-6-0s, the largest locomotives on the Cambrian network when they came into service on Cambrian lines in 1943.
