A very interesting picture of 3205 , a Worcester engine in past years and the sixth of the final batch of twenty of the later version of Mr. Collett's original " 2251 " class , a highly successful design, well regarded by footplate men for smooth running and with that massive Swindon boiler well able to provide all the steam that was required .
This view shows 3205 in her final year working the Somerset and Dorset line but devoid of her numberplates and with a chalked smokebox door number , although she looks remarkably clean , perhaps having been seen to by the band of local enthusiasts the " Master Neverers " who were known to frequent Bath Green Park Motive Power Depot in those late years of steam and who took it upon themselves to clean whatever they could get their hands on!
The only member of the class of 120 to survive into preservation ,3205 is now at home on the South Devon Railway and I wonder whether her plates had been removed in anticipation of her being privately purchased, or simply sold off?
