Sadly 3205 was the sole member of Mr . Collett's " 2251 " class to make it into preservation with all the other 119 examples going under cutters ' torches .
If more of the class had been sold by Swindon to Woodhams at Barry upon withdrawal then we may have seen more with us today , but 3205 happily made it , being privately purchased by the " 2251 " fund upon withdrawal in 1965 , going initially to the Dart Valley Railway at Buckfastleigh that October before moving in March of 1967 to the Severn Valley line upon which it became the first locomotive there , working their reopening special in May of 1970.
3205 then went to the West Somerset Railway in March 1987 prior to its final move back to Buckfastleigh in 1998 where it remains today , a useful member of that line's fleet , but presently (2018) awaiting overhaul.
