Some serious work going on here at Bradford on Avon on the line down through the Avon Valley to Westbury as Bristol Bath Road allocated 2269 runs through , this engine being one of seven of her class allocated to that Depot at that time .
Although one of the later numbered members of the class , 2269 was , in fact , built by Swindon as early as 1930 as the class was begun that year with 2251 , and it was not before 1939 and until 1944 that the examples with the " missing numbers " 2201 to 2250 came out from Swindon so we had earlier built locomotives carrying later class numbers , with the later examples having earlier ones , all very confusing !
Versatile engines , with good steaming capabilities thanks to their large boiler , the class were regarded as good runners , even at speed , and they saw service on freight and passenger duties throughout the Western system until the last was condemned in 1965 with 2210 outliving all her sisters
