2202 1950s Towyn
This nicely composed view at Towyn is looking Southwards towards Dovey Junction with Towyn's goods yard containing cattle wagons clearly visible whilst further away are the coal sidings just ahead of the road bridge .
Collett 2202 , a Banbury engine in 1956 , runs into Towyn from Dovey Junction and possibly further afield on a local " stopper " this class of engine sharing duties on the Cambrian with the familiar little " Dukedogs " and " Manors " before Standard classes came into use in the ' fifties.
Slate traffic from the nearby quarries was an important part of Towyn's freight business , the nearby Tal-y- llyn railway bringing this valuable commodity from the quarries down to the coast here at Towyn's goods complex.
Towyn's " down " side signal box seen here contains the staff and token equipment for the single line sections running to Aberdovey and also the section northwards to Llwyngwril
