22xx 1952 Bentley Heath

A ‘2251’ class 0-6-0 in 1952 at Bentley Heath on a weed-killing train heading towards Birmingham. The train is made up from redundant GWR tenders and the leading one is fitted with a Collett style cab for protection of the staff. Behind the chemical tanks is an ancient six-wheeled GWR clerestory but this is not for braking purposes because a ‘Toad’ is at the rear of the ensemble. The Knowle & Dorridge North Goods Yard and Shed is just visible in the right hand distance. These were built in 1932 during the quadrupling of the line to replace the original goods facilities at the south end of that station.
