The front number plates disappeared a lot earlier then the cab plates - I suppose they were a lot lighter!

Peter kerslake says "My picture of 2242 on Gloucester's Horton Road Depot dates from 1965 and I am not sure whether she was the sole survivor of the class there at that late date in Western Region steam , but certainly ten years earlier there had been four of the class allocated to Gloucester .
With Horton Road's Shedmaster having a number of freight duties over a widespread area to cover , the members of the " 2251 " class at Gloucester would doubtless have spent most of their working lives on freight , rather than passenger turns , but with local " All Stations " stopping passenger services to Swindon , Hereford , Worcester and Cheltenham his " 22's " would certainly have been rostered to those duties as and when required as they were free running locomotives with a massive boiler capable of producing as much steam as was required."
