There were several MPDs that featured instantly recognisable structures adjacent to the main shed buildings. None more so than Leeds' ex-NER Neville Hill MPD situated on the eastern side of the city. The huge water tank and store incorporated clocks on (at least) two sides. On this 1930s day at 1:35 p.m. we see ex-North Eastern Railway T.W.Worsdell 'J21' No. 1515 simmering quietly below this edifice. It was built in June 1889 at Gateshead as NER No. 1515, converted from compound to simple operation in July 1906 and was withdrawn in Oct 1947 as LNER No. 5045.
