9005 was one of sixteen of her class shedded at Machynlleth and its sub shed at Aberystwyth during the mid 'fifties and had been named "Earl of Devon" from new until July of 1937.
She had been built in 1936 using the frames of "Bulldog" 3413 "James Mason" married to the boiler, cab and fittings from a condemned "Duke" class ".
