EMU 2039 1960s Walton-on-Thames

EMU 2039 1960s Walton-on-Thames

SR 2-BIL EMU No 2039 leads an 8-car rake. The '12' code was used earlier on for Waterloo to Alton services, and here we see several '2-Bil' sets on a Down service on the slow line just to the west of Walton station heading towards Woking with the photo taken from Sir Richard's Bridge. For many years one consistant item was the white shed on the Up embankment plus the vertical boards the unit is passing.

We believe during this period the train split at Woking with the leading part, presumably for Alton, and the rear half continuing as a stopping service to Portsmouth.
