James Manson's '11' class 4-4-0 'Lord Glenarthur' was a unique ex-Glasgow and South Western Railway locomotive. It was the only named engine they posessed and didn't even receive that honour until December 1922, 25 years after it's introduction! It was named after Sir Matthew Arthur, First Baron Glenarthur (1852-1928), Chairman of the G&SWR. It was also the first British 4-cylinder simple. Finally, it was a 'singleton', no others of this class were built. 14509 was built at Kilmarnock in Apr. 1897 as G&SWR No. 11, it was rebuilt twice in Dec. 1915 and again in Dec. 1922. Withdrawal came in Nov. 1934.
