No 8 1970-03-05 Methil

No 8 1970-03-05 Methil

East Fife Area No 8 (AB 1296/1912) is seen in the yard at Methil on 5th March 1970. Behind the locomotive is the small Bells Box which controlled many of the yard’s activities. This was done in conjunction with the much larger BR Methil West signal box seen in the background -the two boxes being in telephone contact. Bells box was in radio contact with locomotive crews -note the aerial on the corner of No 8’s cab roof. This locomotive later found use at Polkemmet Colliery, Whitburn.
The block of flats visible here being constructed, had a very short existence and was demolished several years ago.
