90xx 1950s Marple Wharf junction

90xx 1950s Marple Wharf junction

North of Marple station just after the NSR & GCR Macclesfield line joined there was a viaduct over the River Goyt. The viaduct has a canal aquaduct adjacent. Note the towpath for the latter has no safety rails -just a sheer drop. The 'dare' for the local kids at the time was to us jump across the water (it was only about 9 ft across) and stop on the towpath, obviously without toppling off to their death!
