LC&DR 178 1890s Ramsgate Harbour Station Yard
London, Chatham & Dover Railway Wm. Kirtley 'M1' class 4-4-0 No. 178. Built at Longhedge in June 1881, transfeerred to the South Eastern & Chatham Railway in January 1899 as SE&CR No. 637 and withdrawn in November 1914.
Another elegant Victorian 4-4-0 that has echoes in many similar designs of the period. The immaculate appearance of the locomotive including the tallow patterns on all the side sheets are indicative of the pride in being a railway employee. The cliff face at Ramsgate Harbour Station yard in the 1890s provides the canvas for this lovely portrait.
